Nissan has conducted studies of various RWD hybrid configurations, examining acceleration performance, fuel consumption reduction potential, packaging, towing performance and cost. A One-Motor Two-Clutch [1M2C] architecture provides favorable balance among these criteria. Further, the 1M2C system adapts well to FWD applications with smaller engine sizes, which expands the opportunity for potential production volumes. Implementation of this system requires an integrated control system to regulate battery, inverter, motor, clutches, engine, and transmission simultaneously. System operation will be described and demonstrated in fleet test vehicles.
