Drawing on consumer data from markets in North America, Europe and Asia, this presentation will focus on current consumer attitudes toward alternative powertrains (such as Hybrids, Plug-In Hybrids and Advanced Diesels) and explore how attitudes and behaviors are evolving as a result of both industry efforts and public policy. In particular, the speaker will share what Synovate’s data suggests to be the primary barriers to faster adoption of vehicles currently available on the market and will analyze successes, failures and opportunities for improving the pace of that adoption. A primary theme of the presentation will be a comparison of hybrids vs. plug-in hybrids vs. diesels and how consumer value propositions of all three of those technologies have been impacted by fuel prices, marketing, public policy and technology development itself. Mr. Miller will conclude by offering a set of policy recommendations that will address the factors that appear to be limiting consumer adoption.
