Bio

Managing Director, Toyota Motor Corporation

Managing Officer Toyota Motor Corporation Yoshihiko Masuda studied at Nagoya University and graduated in 1977 with a master's degree in engineering and applied physics.  His expertise in automobile engine development has given him a clear understanding of the importance of reliability and performance, and the means by which they can be improved in the future. Joining Toyota in 1977, Mr. Masuda went straight to work on the design and development of small gasoline engines.  In 1991, he moved to Engine Engineering Division 1, with particular responsibility for the development of functional components and moving parts.  More recently, he worked in the Power Train Division, developing large-capacity (six-cylinders or more) gasoline engines, and subsequently took charge of overall planning and management in engine development.  In June 2005, he was made a managing officer taking major responsibilities for engine and fuel system developments A proponent of approaching life with "a spirit of adventure", Mr. Masuda has always taken a keen interest in the relationship of cause and effect.  He observes that global environmental problems and the ever-increasing demand for higher oil production will continue to spur a corresponding demand for innovations in clean-efficient, high-performance engines.  He wants to devote his energies to the further development of power-train technology, which he sees as playing a leading role in the forthcoming "new energy" generation. Mr. Masuda was born in 1952, and lives with his wife, Naomi, and their two daughters in Okazaki City, Aichi Prefecture.  By way of relaxation, he enjoys playing golf and refining his self-assembled computer system. Responsibilities:
  • Engine Administration Division
  • New Engine Development Division
  • Engine Engineering Division 1
  • Engine Engineering Division 2
  • Fuel Cell System Engineering Division
  • Fuel Cell System Development Division
